Future Electric Type-R, Says Honda Consultant

The Honda Type-R name has been around for a long time which specifically tailors to high-performance vehicles that Honda releases. Each Type-R is made with care and sincerity as the name dates back to the early 90's. First, debuted on the EK9 Honda Civic in 1996, which gave customers the ability to experience low-cost fun and lightweight capabilities. Now, it seems that Honda wants to keep the Type-R name alive, as the industry transitions to electric cars.

According to Ko Yamamoto, Honda's technical advisor, we should be expecting a Type-R name accompanied on their future electric sports cars. He added "The Type-R is an attribute that maximizes the pleasure of driving and operation," Yamamoto said. "If that pleasure can be transported with an electric car, then that car could be called a Type-R."

Honda stated that last year it planned to launch 30 electric vehicles worldwide until 2030. Some of the vehicles will definitely hit the shores of North America, starting with Honda's new SUV models, the Prologue and Acura ZDX. Previously the world caught of a glimpse of Honda's ability to harness electricity through their hybrid supercar, the currently discontinued NSX. With the history of sales that the NSX experienced, its unclear how the market will react to a Type-R badged on a fully electric Honda vehicle.

It should be noted that Honda is increasing their efforts in order to ensure that the sales of their electric vehicles will survive it's competition. With its cooperation with Sony in their endeavors to develop the Afeela, a new brand of electric cars. Honda's release of the Type-R brand may come to fruition but not much time after their designated 2030 year goal.
