Toyota Century: A Japanese-Only SUV Variant Of An Icon

The SUV model will cost over $170k and will now be included as a plug-in hybrid crossover with posh interior.

Meet the Japanese-only hybrid Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Except the somewhat heavy price tag and boastful V12 motor. The Toyota Century has always been a Japanese icon for luxury and has been a trail blazer for many subcultures including the established VIP body styles further derived from other Japanese luxury vehicles. However, this new Century is now a SUV variant, much different from its original sedan car.

Under that polished hood, is a 3.5 liter V-6 generating over 406 horsepower with the help from an electric-hybrid system. It will also be all-wheel drive and Toyota has mentioned that a full tank of gas should last 30 mpg with a 33-mile electric range. Toyota executives have said that the electric range of the Century should be used on short trips, providing a more quiet and smooth ride experience. While the latter, fuel consumption on longer trips.

Despite its clever engineering setup, inside the cabin, the Century gives full power to its rear passengers. With fully reclinable rear seats, and a "finely honed" audio system, Toyota has centered the Century for those who are able to be chauffeured. In addition, those in the back are able to select an exclusive drive mode which is meant to help smoothen braking jolts. However, only four seats come with the SUV, allowing Toyota to emphasize more on it's grandeur impression.

Toyota has decided to stick with its traditional Century-based appearance. Showcasing its classic boxy characteristic, horizontal lining, and finishing it with little modern curvature. Embedded in the front is a Century logo, revealing a dancing phoenix.

Century customers have been given the ability to customize their own Century with different types of interior styles and colours. As well as, GR-badged sliding doors featured alongside sportier wheels and accents. Numerous tones and upholstery options, you name it the Century is has it covered.

Only a limited number of models will be manufactured given its a Japan-only spec model and starts around $169,000 to those willing to afford it.
